The cancer specialist looked at the lab test results and then said…… “Roger, based on my 18 years of experience, you have no more than 6 – 9 months to live and there is nothing medical science can do for you! The best advice I can give you is to go home and get your affairs in order.”
I found out Roger had Cancer when his PSA was 44.

98 days later his PSA was down to 1.31

Roger did not conquer his cancer because I am a genius. I am NOT a genius. My wife and children can confirm that.

Roger and I were very, very lucky that I had researched cancer for many years, had run across some very good science that other people had done, remembered it, was asked to take Roger to see the oncologist and then made some very fortunate choices about what products to use in trying to help Roger live.

Roger and his wife were my best friends. They trusted me and had the hope, faith and courage to try my suggestions.

One wrong choice by any of us, anywhere along the way, and Roger would have died just as his doctor had told him.

One Cancer Cure is a monument to humble friends and our way of sharing with other people who need help.

This week on Survival and Beyond – The Big Agro agenda to destroy our food supply grinds on! Like Agent Orange on your corn? Because if Dow Chemical’s lobby to get their latest GMO abomination approved by the USDA is successful, that’s exactly what’s coming! Ed covers this story as well as the latest scientific study showing that Bt toxins (from GM plants engineered to produce their own insecticide) have been detected in a large number of pregnant women (and their fetuses) who have eaten the plant. He also covers the latest media brainwashing campaign for Mitt Romney, plus other random musings from Ed’s world.

Dow Chemical has petitioned the USDA for the approval of another crop genetically-engineered to resist a deadly herbicide. This time it’s 2,4-D. You may remember hearing about 2,4-D as a major component of Monsanto’s Agent Orange defoliant used widely in the Vietnam War, which was linked to countless cases of birth defects and cancer.

I don’t know about you, but I definitely don’t want this chemical anywhere near my food – or my family.

In the last year alone, new studies have shown that Monsanto’s genetically-engineered Bt insecticide corn has not only created a new breed of superbugs resistant to the plant’s genetically engineered insecticide, but that those Bt toxins have also been found in the blood of 93 percent of woman and 80 percent of fetal blood samples in a Canadian study, despite Monsanto’s claims that this was not possible.

At the same time, Monsanto’s Roundup Ready corn and soybeans and their flagship herbicide Roundup have been linked to an increase in crop diseases and livestock infertility. If that weren’t enough, the excessive use of Roundup has led to the rampant rise of superweeds, which have grown resistant to the herbicide and have infested millions of acres of farmland, threatening the livelihoods of America’s farmers.

Now, Dow Chemical is petitioning the U.S. Department of Agriculture for the approval of a new genetically engineered “Agent Orange” corn that tolerates the extremely toxic chemical herbicide 2,4-D, a major component of the Vietnam War era defoliant Agent Orange.

Numerous studies have linked exposure to 2,4-D to serious health problems that include cancer (particularly non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma), lowered sperm counts, liver disease and Parkinson’s disease. In addition, dozens of peer-reviewed studies have found the use of 2,4-D to contribute to hormone-disrupting activity linked to reproductive problems and thyroid dysfunction.

If you haven’t told the USDA what you think about the de-regulation of this crop genetically engineered to build a market for this deadly chemical, please do so today! We only have a few days left to meet the deadline for public comments on Friday, April 27th.

BACKUP GENERATOR

Events that affect the grid are a big concern in prepping and survival.  On the broad scale, events such as solar flares or an EMP attack could knock electricity out over large areas of the country, not to return for 10-20 years (if at all).  Changing weather patterns and natural disasters could leave you without power for weeks or months.  Even a winter storm could put you in  the dark for a stretch. Here in New Hampshire, ice storms have interrupted the power to large sections of the state for 2 weeks or more.   So it’s always good to have a backup generator, whether you’re getting ready to survive TEOTWAWKI, or just prepping for more common catastrophes.  This guide will show you what to look for when buying a generator.

states economic collapse 225

When this country was conceived, the states were intended to retain sovereignty as free and independent nation states, which is why state’s rights are protected under the Constitution. These days, the 10th Amendment (as well as other amendments) doesn’t seem to be at all relevant to the federal government anymore, but it takes more than hollering for state’s rights to reclaim any true and sovereignty. States must develop their own infrastructures and systems, and most importantly, stop accepting the federal funding that keeps them beholden to Washington authority. States that do not take vital steps now to protect their independence and solvency will be much more vulnerable and hardest hit when the U.S.  inevitably falls into economic collapse. The following is an interesting article that I came across by Brandon Smith from Prepper Podcast Radio News, detailing six steps that states should take to protect themselves from financial collapse:

The states of America are, truly, children of the Constitution. The legal framework that is the foundation of state sovereignty and internal administration is unique for perhaps any country in history up to the moment the U.S. won its independence. States were designed to decentralize and keep in check the power of a subservient Federal Government. They were meant to be the guardians at the gate, the barrier to the formation of oligarchy or outright dictatorship. This, of course, has changed drastically.

The battle over centralized verses decentralized authority and economy has been going on for quite some time, and is undeniably critical in our climate of crisis now, under a government which is bankrupt in every sense and a currency which is on the verge of calamity.

A vast shift in state independence was definitely caused by the reformations of the Civil War, but the progressive erasure of financial sovereignty in the states was really placed on the fast track after the Federal Reserve Act of 1913, when the enforcement of new taxes fueled the establishment machine, including social security (which the government constantly steals from) and the income tax (which does not pay for any state infrastructure), came to life. Now, the Federal Government could borrow fiat money created at will by the private central bank from thin air, and, it could tax the populace to feed the Federal Reserve in a cannibalistic circle of doom. This dynamic has grown our government to a size so massive that it is now forced to monetize its own debt just to survive.

Setting aside the inevitable collapse of the dollar and our economic system as we know it, a considerable goal has been achieved by centralists; with so much free money at the disposal of the Feds, they could wipe away the last vestiges of state sovereignty by simply BUYING state compliance. Through agencies like the EPA, FDA, ATF, etc, 10th Amendment checks and balances are trampled constantly without any regard for local laws or the will of the people, but really, state governments and citizens would be in a far better position to deny such agency intrusions if they didn’t gobble every dollar that D.C. waves in their faces like doggie treats. In our era of tenuous fiscal sop-gaps and imploding economies, the need for Americans, and especially states, to decouple from the Federal Government and the mainstream system is more important than ever.

The following is a step by step method that states could use to accomplish the task of insulation from financial crisis and federal control. Much of it hinges on a willingness by state governments to actually pursue independence, which might seem like a naïve dream to most of us. But, in the wake of a major breakdown, and the fall of the greenback, I believe many states will be seeking a way to weather the storm, if only out of a desire to survive, and this includes walking away from their ties to Washington:

Step 1: Stop Accepting Federal Funding

For states already drowning in debt, this is probably an incomprehensible idea (there is no financial escape for California or Illinois that I can see), but for those states which have some responsibility, and lower debt levels, federal funding is not necessary. Much of the money that the Federal Government collects comes through state cooperation. This money is then handed back to the states through various avenues with strings attached. The rest of the capital D.C. pumps into states is attained through printing; which carries the high price of dollar devaluation and the hidden tax of inflation. The fact is, states are not required by law (yet) to accept federal funds. As long as states do so anyway, they expose themselves to federal influence. As the dollar goes, so shall all those tied to it. States should take a lesson from the Asian bloc nations like China or Japan and begin distancing themselves as far away from U.S. currency and debt as possible. In the long term, those that do will endure. Those that don’t will be drug under the water along with the sinking ship.

Step 2: Enforce 10th Amendment Nullification

Once states are no longer beholden to federal monies, they have more leeway to obstruct intrusions by alphabet agencies and to deny dangerous legislative programs (like Obamacare) which put them at financial risk. Nullification takes many forms, and numerous issues have the potential to become vehicles for the assertion of 10th Amendment rights. One very fascinating political method was devised by representative Phil Hart of Idaho, who used the power to declare emergencies by states themselves to devise a piece of legislation which would allow Idaho to trump Federal and EPA restriction of the local wolf problem. As the bill flew through the legislature, interestingly, Congress delisted the wolf as an endangered species. Obviously, the Federal Government did not want the issue to become a success for 10th Amendment rights, and so defused the situation pulling the EPA back. Essentially, the Federal Government blinked.

This strategy could be used for multiple state conflicts with the Federal Government to effectively nullify their ability to lord over and interfere with specific needs of the people of a particular region. The future economic prosperity of the various states will depend greatly on their ability to take decisive fiscal action without constantly having to ask permission from the feds.

Step 3: Set Up A State Bank

There is certainly some controversy over the idea of a state bank. In the end, any institution can be twisted for devious ends, and a state bank is no different. However, this system has worked well in North Dakota, where a state bank has been in operation for over 90 years. Some from the “left” (whatever that means anymore) often attempt to use the institution as an example of “socialist banking”, which is not exactly accurate, and gives the strategy a bad name. Yes, the bank is state owned, but its purpose is to invest in and encourage free market enterprise within the state, not create a state owned and operated economy.

A state bank would be especially effective in resource rich areas, where a state government can invest in local projects run by local companies which employ local people. This is the opposite of what we see so often today, where international corporate entities are given monopoly over resource development within a state. They siphon away most of the profits and jobs from the region, while the Federal Government thwarts the growth of competing small businesses through concerted taxation and regulation. This goes on because states often do not feel they have the funding capability to encourage local business efforts. The problem diminishes drastically with a state bank, if done correctly, honestly, and with oversight from the citizenry.

Step 4: Resource Development

As mentioned above, resource rich states will have a noticeable advantage in the event of a primary system collapse. As the dollar continues to tumble and inflation rises, trade methods will eventually revert to raw goods and materials. This has taken place in nearly every recorded modern economic crisis, and was especially prevalent during Weimar Germany, when debtor nations began refusing the hyperinflated Mark as payment, and demanded natural resources from the Germans instead. States with heavy resources will be in a perfect position to decouple from the failing establishment and build their own systems (which is probably a main motivation behind Obama’s latest “National Defense Resources Preparedness Executive Order…).

Step 5: Adopt Alternative Currencies

There is a lot of debate over the “legality” of a state coining its own money, so, I recommend cutting out the debate entirely and merely adopting certain metals, like silver, gold and copper, as recognized methods of payment within the state. Many state governments are considering measures for alternative currencies, and some, like Utah, have passed bills on precious metals. The problem is that most of these bills do not go far enough. At bottom, states are going to have to complete the economic chain by paying OUT precious metals into the system and encouraging businesses to do likewise. It’s not enough for residents to be allowed to pay IN.

States that rely on the dollar as their only trade mechanism will fail. States that decentralize currencies by adding other options into the mix will survive. It’s really that simple.

Step 6: Encourage Localized Markets

States will only be as healthy economically as their individual communities allow. Small communities can become independent trade networks on their own, but the right state help and encouragement would make the process move along much faster. The more self reliant each town and county becomes, the more insulated they become from wide spectrum disaster. During any national breakdown, redundancy is the key. It will mean the difference between a total nightmare scenario and large scale tragedy, or a minimal system shock followed by rapid rebuilding. Barter must be reintroduced to the American lifestyle, and states have the ability to help nurture network growth. Trade skills and micro-industries can easily be promoted through state programs.

This is the kind of constructive government involvement that is needed; it seeks to open doors and then gets out of the way, rather than closing doors, and grasping for more control. Unfortunately, policies like this are not possible under the current Federal construct, but they still could be possible within the states.

I would like to point out that in the event that your state government is not receptive to the idea of independent economy, all is not lost. Each one of the steps above can be accomplished in reverse at the neighborhood, town, and county level. Over a period of time, and with relentless drive, solid alternative networks will spread, link, and take over a state regardless of what the local government approves of. The secret is this;

Provide for yourself and others what the mainstream system will not, and eventually, they will either have to conform to your logic, because it works, or, they will have to try and stop you with violence and expose their inherent tyranny, building greater resistance. In either case, you win.

rainwater harvesting

Besides shelter, water is the most important resource for survival and rain is the ultimate source of fresh, pure water. There is a growing water crisis developing both here in the U.S. as well as around the world, as aquifers and reservoirs are being depleted faster than they can be replenished and drought conditions persist in southern, and southwestern regions of the country. Whether you live in an arid climate, or not, a water crisis may come as a result of a disaster, grid collapse or economic breakdown, so procuring and storing clean water through rainwater harvesting is essential for self reliance.

Rain water harvesting is a system by which, the rainwater that collects on the roofs and the area around the buildings is directed into open wells through a filter tank or into a percolation chamber, built specifically for this purpose. Rainwater is collected directly or recharged into the ground to improve ground water storage. Some states have restrictive regulations again harvesting rainwater.  While the claim that even the water in the sky belongs to the state may be draconian and oppressive, you should check your state’s mandates regarding water rights and rain collection.

Rain is the ultimate source of fresh water. With the ground area around houses and buildings being cemented, particularly in cities and towns, rainwater, which runs off from terraces and roofs, was draining into low-lying areas and not percolating into the soil. Thereby, precious rainwater is squandered, as it is drained into the sea eventually. Rain water harvesting is a system by which, the rainwater that collects on the roofs and the area around the buildings is directed into open wells through a filter tank or into a percolation chamber , built specifically for this purpose.
Rainwater is collected directly or recharged into the ground to improve ground water storage. Water that is not extracted from ground during rainy days is the water saved.

NUCLEAR WAR SURVIVAL 225

The purpose of this book is to provide Americans and other unprepared people with information and self-help instructions that will significantly increase their chances of surviving a nuclear attack. It brings together field- tested instructions that, if followed by a large fraction of Americans during a crisis that precedes an attack, could save millions of lives. The author is convinced that the vulnerability especially of Americans to nuclear threat or attack must be reduced and that the wide dissemination of the information contained in this book will help preserve peace with freedom.

On this installment of Survival and Beyond, I talk about Agenda 21 tyranny and the multi-pronged effort to abolish private property in America. I also had the pleasure of interviewing MIT engineer and author of “When Disaster Strikes” – Mat Stein. Mat discusses the under-reported threat of large-scale nuclear power plant disaster as a result of a grid collapse, and he exposes the lies put forth by the North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC) about the stability of our grid infrastructure. He also uncovers the corporate control of our energy grid, and the unwillingness of the government to invest s single dime into safeguarding it.

Mat Stein P.E. is is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT); where he majored in Mechanical Engineering. He’s the author of the acclaimed book: “When Technology Fails: A Manual for Self-Reliance, Sustainability and Surviving the Long Emergency” (Chelsea Green 2008). His latest book: “When Disaster Strikes” is a comprehensive guide to surviving a large number of various natural and man-made disasters. He can be reached at his website: www.whentechfails.com

anasazi-kiva-225

When I lived in Arizona I learned a lot of survival skills from my Navajo and Hopi friends. Those cats knew how to survive – even growing crops (dry farming) – in some of the harshest environments. The ancient Anasazi Indians are an interesting study in survivalism. One of the most fundamental, core essentials of survival is reflected in the progression of the Anasazi people – adaptability. The Anasazi people are believed to have originated about 7000 years ago. Originally, they were nomadic, hunter-gatherers, but eventually settled down and started establishing villages, practicing agriculture and building impressive complexes
of apartment like dwellings – some with two or more floors. I’ve seen the Anasazi ruins in Arizona and they’re pretty remarkable. Imagining what it must have been like thousands of years ago, you get the image of something more like a proto-city than a simple village. There was even a ball court with seating for spectators, situated near a natural blow-hole that delivers a near-continuous blast of cool air from underground.

Life must have been good… But like all civilizations, it didn’t last. Eventually, due to continuous attacks from marauding, nomadic tribes, the Anasazi had to abandon their communities atop the mesas and adapt to living in dwellings into the sheer faces of cliffs and canyon walls. The “cliff dwellers” as they’re now called did this purely for defensive reasons. In Flagstaff, AZ there are some cliff dwelling ruins in Walnut Canyon, which was just a short bike ride from my house. At this point, those ruins are little more than holes in the canyon wall, but there are more well preserved cliff dwellings, such as “Montezuma Castle” in Arizona, which demonstrate how advanced their building skills were.

You can definitely see the tactical advantage to literally living within the canyon walls. No point in trying to raid a place when you can’t even get to their stuff! Or even have a snowball’s chance of getting close to it without getting killed.

Some describe the Anasazi as an extinct people, and in fact, that’s how I described them myself at first, but they are believed to be the ancestors of the modern Pueblo Indians. I’d like to believe that this millenniums-old people continued to find a way to adapt and survive into the 21st century, even if there’s little left of their previous cultures but sherds of pottery and the ruins themselves.

I came across this article earlier from disaster-prep.org about Native American survival skills that started me thinking about the Anasazi as the ultimate survivalists.

American Indians-Disaster Management–Group Living and Survival Knives

You are probably looking at that title and saying what in the world does a title like that mean?

It was meant to encompass the high points of this article without writing a paragraph for a title. My wife is American Indian and I have always found the stories that have been passed down to her from her family of survival and bravery to be very interesting and wondered what the tragedy that has been visited upon them and their natural way of life prior could teach us now as we begin to take on a preppers way of life.

Of course the more one knows about natural law and the way things really work outside our man made world the better off a prepper will be. There is no doubt that much of the wisdom has been lost even to those that are close to the Indian tradition but at the same time even looking from the outside in we can learn a lot.

Those of us in the United States are quite naive to think that this empire that in terms of History is really quite young, is anything other than destined to fail at some point in the future. For those of us that intend to make it past that point by being as ready as possible for what is coming need to gather as much of the knowledge from every place we can and what better treasure trove than from the American Indian.

Indians Lived In Groups For Survival

It is a common theme when you begin to read about and learn about prepping for disaster survival to hear advise to have a group of people that are near you that are of like mind and that you can rely on when the proverbial ‘stuff’ hits the fan. Each of you will have different skills that can benefit the group and collectively you will have a far better chance of survival than you will alone.

You might even go so far in your group to document or record which skills each person has so you can see where your strengths and weaknesses are. This happened quite naturally over time in the Indian culture but when you are forced quickly into an emergency or disaster survival situation, it will be far easier to have worked some of this out ahead of time.

You may never have considered the mental toll that being in a disaster and being forced to deal with a whole new way of life, either short or long term, can have on a person. The community support can offer ways of girding up each others mind. Helping you to think that there is still some security and hope that if you were all alone you would not have. In almost all dangerous or perilous situations there is safety in numbers and having a broader skill set available.

Indians Knew What Tools Were Necessary For Survival In Life

One of the most essential tools that we all know Indians were skilled with was a knife. It can be used in so many different ways if one learns how to properly use it. It is compact, multipurpose, silent, light weight… it is almost indispensable. The most obvious use is for protection and although many might argue that it is not as powerful or does not have the range of a gun (and I would agree) but there can be some advantages. With the knife you never have to worry about running out of ammunition, it is silent when used but again these are learned skills. Prepping takes time and there are many things to learn and how to use a knife is only one skill that is very valuable.

core of survival

At a time when it seems like every other week, some whack-job desides to open fire on a crowd of unarmed civilians, the predictable, knee-jerk reaction by liberals and a world order who would prefer we were all defenseless sheeple is to restrict the Second Amendment and make handguns and other firearms harder to obtain and carry under law. Those of us with a lick of common sense know that in these times, owning and carrying a handgun does not make our society more dangerous, but in fact makes us all safer. The very argument that owning and carrying a handgun for personal protection somehow makes our society LESS safe is not only paradoxical, it’s downright idiotic!

Think of the lives that could have been saved in Aurora, CO if just one person in that movie theater was armed, instead of being forced to leave their pistol or revolver in their car because the cinema was declared a “gun-free zone”. Criminals and sociopaths tend not to follow the rules when you proclaim and area to be “gun free”, “drug free”, “crime free” etc. If you can’t see how ludicrous the concept of “gun free” zones is, then I suggest you cancel your home security plan and simply place a sign in your yard declaring your home to be a “burglar free” zone and see how well that works.

For the civilian defender, here are the seeming paradoxes as I see them:

We live in a peaceful world, but we see a need to be able to enter a violent world at any time with little or no warning.

We provide ourselves with offensive weapons to defend ourselves with.

We plan and prepare to defend ourselves against force by projecting force.

We have to. We have no other choice if we do not wish to surrender to whatever violence is offered to us. There is no perfect defense.

No shield, no armor, no barrier, nothing that man has produced will stop every attack, every bit of force offered, every strike and stab and bullet, every time, all the time. “This (device, substance, technique) will stop most attacks that you are likely to be subject to,” someone says. Is “most” good enough for you? Let’s put a figure on it—97%. This—whatever—will stop 97% of all attacks.

Do you want to risk being in the three-percent of cases where it does not? And do you want to believe that an attacker, without being resisted, will not continue, will not repeat the attack until they hit the golden three-percent mark?

The reality is that most of us already have those odds of not being successfully attacked without the magical armor or miraculous technique, because most of us will not be attacked at all. The odds that you will be attacked at some point in your life, however, are higher than the odds of winning almost any lottery you can name, and we know that people win lotteries all the time.

So we are back to those paradoxes. We’re back to carrying weapons and learning hand-to-hand combat. We’re back to being able to project force to resist force projected at us. We’re back to attacking the one who first attacks us.

Defend myself with a gun? How? Do I use it to stop bullets or deflect the blade of the knife thrust at my face? No: I use the gun to stop the attacker, not the attack. How do I stop the attacker with a gun? I shoot him. I don’t take the gun and put it against his arm or hand or trigger finger to block his action. I shoot him with it.

I point the gun and I pull the trigger and I project force enough (I hope) that he becomes unable or unwilling to keep projecting force at me. I attack back. I attack the attacker.

“The concepts involved in self reliant living are simple. The implementation is not. It takes dedication and effort to prepare for adversity. The eneficial need of prudent preparations are self evident. With proper preparedness comes security and peace of mind. Problems will slide away as you enable yourself to believe in your ability to just live without fear and struggle. You will not have to rely on government handouts, a community shelter, a food line, or daily onerous trips laden down with milk jugs to the county water tanker truck if available. Those who are not prepared will be controlled.  Those who are prepared can live free. The choice is yours to make.”
